Haven’t had time to do the blog properly last couple of days as they have been long and tough. Suffice to say that Tuesday was my toughest day and although yesterday I was feeling better it was also a tough day due to very high winds throughout. Hoping today (Thursday) from Livarot to Fougeres (a mere 190.5km) will be kinder to us. Brittany is not known for its pleasant calm weather though.
I may have said before but will say again, the people who designed this route for the pros know what they’re doing. Taking us across these parts of northern France at this time of year makes the race is truly open to the elements and yesterday proved that. From Abbeville to Le Havre we encountered rain and wind like it was middle of winter with the only compensation being that the temperature was above 10 degrees.
You can see briefly here how the sea reacted and some of the secirity tape for the route is blown off the chairs!
Thank you to my wonderful family entourage who followed up until yesterday. The length of today’s stage hit me as I went to bed when I remembered them saying they can’t be with me this evening as it’s simply too far to drive back in time to drop the motorhome off – ouch, are we really really cycling that far ?

Keep it up Ciaran, you are doing great. We are thinking of you – and take care!!! Sam and Bridget
Thanks guys – stage 8 done with a short time trial tomororw (cool down ride for us) and a rest day on Sunday before we head into the mountains on Monday – looking forward to it.
One week done Ciaran – better than some of the pros! Brilliant stuff. Good luck in the pyrenees. Love Rob, Nicky, Fergus, Harriet and Mols.
